CHAPTER 3
Installing OpenLinux
This chapter describes how to install OpenLinux using the Linux Installation
Wizard. The first section describes several methods of reaching the first Open-
Linux installation screen.
In order to install OpenLinux, you must have a dedicated Linux partition. If you
created the partition using Partition Magic as described in Chapter 2, you have
the partition created already. You can also use the partitioning tool included in the
installation program itself to create a Linux partition.
NOTE: If you intend to run Windows and OpenLinux from the
same hard disk, you must use the PartitionMagic utility as
described in the previous chapter to create a Linux partition
from your existing Windows partition. You can skip Parti-
tionMagic, however, if you already have a Linux partition
configured. In any case, you do not want the installation pro-
gram to alter your Windows partition.
While this chapter describes how to install a single OpenLinux system from CD-
ROM, there are times when other types of installations might be more appropri-
ate. For example, you can install OpenLinux over a network or do an unattended
installation. Refer to the Special OpenLinux Installation Procedures in Chapter
12 for further information on these type of installations.
